The second Annual Patriot’s Day Golf Outing set for Sept. 11 at Edgmont Country Club will benefit the Delaware County Veterans Memorial being constructed on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square.Gathering at the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center in West Chester recently, the Marine Corp League Color Guard of General Smedley D. Butler Detachment in Newtown Square joined with representatives of the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Board and sponsors to promote the upcoming Golf Tournament and “Helicopter Ball Drop,” engineered by Pilot Rob Warner.“The Delaware County Veterans Memorial is more than just a monument, it is a lasting tribute to our brave men and woman who have served their country as well as an educational tool for generations to come,” said Golf Outing Co-Chairs Jeremy Leon and Larry Conroy. “Now, more than ever, it is important to remind the citizens of this country of the sacrifice it takes to have a truly free nation. let us never forget the brave men and women, who have put themselves in harm’s way or have made the ultimate sacrifice, so that all may enjoy the fruits this great country has to offer.”The Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association, under the leadership of President Tony Fizzano, has set aside Sept.11, to bring attention to a day Americans will never forget.“We’re honored to commemorate this day dedicated to our military men and women who have fought, and continue to fight, for our country,” said Memorial Assn. President Tony Fizzano. “We’re entering Phase 2 this fall by beginning construction on the memorial. Our efforts during Phase 1, including the pro bono architectural services of George Matuszewski and a $100,000 matching fund contribution from the de Botton family, have enabled us to begin building this tribute to our veterans. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $1 Million. we are in the process of seeking funding from public and private foundations, government agencies, business organizations and individuals to make this dream come true.”The Golf Outing is open to all According to co Chair Jeremy Leon, the addition of the “Helicopter Ball Drop” allows non-golfers to participate in the Patriot’s Day activity for $20 a chance. a maximum of one thousand balls will be dropped on a designated hole at Edgmont Country Club.
