Wasn’t that a spectacular sight on Sunday morning, seeing all of the snow on the McDowell Mountains?
It’s too bad we didn’t have the hot air balloons launching that morning as was our early Sunday Great Fair tradition for so many years.
That scene would have made for some spectacular photos with the colorful hot air balloons rising above Fountain Lake with the white mountains as a backdrop.
We’re never satisfied are we. oh well, even without the balloons, there were plenty of photos taken of the picturesque mountain scenes in just about every direction you could see.
The weather mostly cooperated with the Chamber of Commerce’s Great Fair. (There was some wind damage from the Saturday night storm.) It was a comfortable Friday with a big turn out of fairgoers. Saturday it was mostly cloudy but still a comfortable temperature for strolling by the exhibits and the overnight heavy rains were over by the start of the final day on Sunday.
As for the rain, we had .80 inches here at the Times office. and you should see the weeds in my front yard this week.
But a fast recovery is predicted. High temperatures should be back to or even above the norm for this time of year by the time you read this. I saw it could be in the 80s by Monday.
For those of you who didn’t know this about me, I have some classical music background. I’m not talking classic rock (my Elvis days), but rather the eight years I played the violin in the Clarendon Elementary and West Phoenix High School orchestras.
My dad was an excellent violinist. he was concert master of the Oklahoma City University orchestra before being called to duty during World War II.
I never was as good on the violin as my dad, but I did gain an appreciation for classical music.
So guess what I have been doing these past several months. I have been giving up Sunday afternoon football games and attending concerts by the Fountain Hills Chamber Players.
I have been attending with friend Janie Kainrath, who has background as a cellist. her husband, Frank, my long-time buddy, isn’t into classical music, and neither is my wife, Diane.
Janie and I will be attending the Chamber Players’ final performance of the season this coming Sunday. the concert begins at 3 p.m. at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. the music of three German composers, Telemann, Beethoven and Brahms, will be featured.
Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at the door. they usually have some pretty tasty munchies after the concert, which is a bonus.
If you aren’t into classical music, you can be entertained on Sunday at the first of the Spring Concerts in the Park Series presented by the Town of Fountain Hills.
Karaoke DJ Bob Walters will kick things off at 1:15 p.m. with “Frank Sinatra, the man and his music.”
The Spin Band, a dance and variety group, will take the stage at 2:30 p.m. they will perform until 4 p.m. All Spring Concerts in the Park are held at the performance pad, located in the northwest corner of Fountain Park.
I’m closing this week with a reminder about the Carnevale celebration at the Community Center on Saturday evening. It’s a fund-raiser for the Fountain Hills Sister Cities program.
Tickets are $75 per person. call Janie for tickets, (480) 290-5184.
It’s our own town Mardi Gras party. See you there.
