Your points are well taken and quite obvious, but the most important part of a marketing plan is to identfy who is your primary target market. is it high income & high net worth, which can afford to go to CW, shop at Merchant Square and stay in a quaint B&B or is it Middle American that sees value going to Busch Gardens/WaterCountry all day, shopping at the Outlets and staying at the best hotel within their budget. first do an analysis on what our primary market really is. second, come up with innovative ideas to go after them. Discounting is just one idea to project value, but whose going to discount??? the attractions?? the hotels?? the restaurants?? the retail stores?? Frontier Airlines?? Since people come to the area for the attractions, they should be the discounters working with airlines in order to create a package deal for tourists. good luck getting CW to discount. Again, you don’t know how much to discount unless you know who the primary market is. If you really wanted to help with tourism marketing, you would set up a forum with everyone involved and moderate. I suspect that you would not have that kind of time or interest so I read your editorial for what it is……a journalist writing an opinion piece and trying to stir up commentary. good Job!! "
