So far this year airlines have raised rates six times, compared with just three increases last year, partly to keep pace with rising oil prices, according to Farecompare.com, which tracks ticket prices. overall, fares are up about 18 percent for travel in late may through early June, compared with the same period last year, according to Bing Travel, which offers predictions on whether fares will go up, down or hold steady on a given route.

United Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of United Continental Holdings inc. (NYSE: UAL – News), has finalized a labor contract with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) for 5,500 airplane mechanics of United Airlines. In October 2010, United and Continental merged to form United Continental Holdings. However, labor unions of both companies still remain disintegrated causing union disputes.

American Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines reached a codeshare agreement under which AA will place its code on its London Heathrow service to Delhi and Mumbai and on Kingfisher domestic service beyond Delhi. Kingfisher will places its IT code on AA's Chicago O'Hare service to Delhi as well as on selected AA flights between the US and LHR. The codeshare on AA's flight to ORD will be the first time Kingfisher has placed its code on any flight operating into the US. Subject to regulatory approvals, the agreement will begin in 2011.
